PENARTH and Dinas Runners were crowned winners in the final of the SSAFA 5k race series last month.

Penarth runner Lisa Cleary was the overall women’s champion in the three-race series and was also the first woman to finish in her age category, Veteran Ladies 45’s, on the night too, July 24.

Jane Blethyn was also the first woman in her age category, Veteran Ladies 55’s, to finish the race.

A total of 102 runners took part in the 5k race around Bute Park.

Clem Clement was the first Penarth runner to cross the finish line in 20.05.

Lisa Cleary was next with a PB of 20.29.

Chris Seal took over 20 seconds off his PB with a time of 20.55.

Malcolm Bradley was seconds behind in 21.03.

Marc Durkin was next in 21.41.

Peter Cottnam was next with 21.48 - his fastest time since he had a motorbike accident in 2005.

Ruth Owens achieved a PB with 22.39, finishing as the second woman overall in the series.

Sally Wilkinson 23.14.

Jane Blethyn 23.40.

Steve Hill and Michelle Hoey crossed the line at the same time in 24.30.

Janice Clement 26.30.

Penarth and Dinas Runners meet every Monday evening at Cosmeston Country Park, by the visitor centre, at 7pm.
