Memorable success over local rivals

WITH their league matches completed, Windsor Bowling Club ladies entertained Cadoxton and Barry Athletic, with the enjoyable end of season games ending in honourable draws.
Highlight of the week was the Lady Captain v Vice Captain match played in perfect weather, with no quarter given and vice-captain Veronica Flitney’s team squeezing home by the odd shot.
The buffet tea prepared by ladies' captain Kay and her committee was very much appreciated and enjoyed by all.
The men’s Alliance game against Penylan on Tuesday was close, with the visitors producing a winning margin of six shots after the rinks were shared. Windsor's successful rinks were Alun Daniel, Chas Lewis, Ian Mathias and John Evans (21-16) and Dave Brenton, Colin Roper, Tommy Owen and Tom Evans (19-8).
On the weekend both the PG1 & PG2 teams met the neighbours from Penarth (Rectory Road) and thankfully clear skies were in evidence. The PG2 team returned home with glum faces having lost by 20 shots and collected only two points through a winning rink of Trevor Warburton, John Skone, Reg Paull and Chas Cole (19-18).
What a story from the PG1 fixture with Penarth, which is normally a well balanced game. But not on this occasion with Windsor needing a good win to re-establish their position near the top of the league. Evidence of their success is the match score of 110-69 and a 13-point haul which was beyond Windsor’s dreams. Ken McLeod, Chas Burton, Derek Davies and Mike Matthews (36-13) set the standard, followed by Tony Holmes, Brian Rogers, Peter Morrish and Austen Meredith (30-17) and men’s captain Paul Gunter, Mike Lloyd-Jones, Phil Gooding and Mike Fullbrook (24-19). The rink of Eddie Thorne fought to the bitter end to secure a hard earned draw (20-20). A weekend to remember.
