Focus on quality in new soccer initiative

BARRY Town United has revealed details of the Vale of Glamorgan Soccer Development Centre it is delivering in partnership with the Vale Council.
Development centre sessions will be held on a Friday between 6pm and 8pm, a change considered necessary in order to access the quality of coaches required.
A clubs spokesman said: "We understand that football on a Friday could be a concern for some, with many youngsters playing for their respective club sides on a Saturday. However, the concept of the development centre moving forward will be closely focused on technical development and as such will not be overly exhaustive.
"Whilst it is anticipated that games against opposition centres will be played, our belief is that player learning and development is equally, if not more, potent when being coached in small groups.
"Our group sessions will be delivered by UEFA A and B licence coaches, all of whom have a high level of experience within amateur, semi-professional and professional football."
This year, the centre will run at U10, U11, U12 and U13 age grade levels, and the spokesman added: "It is our hope that this will steadily grow in the upcoming years, with a focus on quality and not quantity.
"Moving forward, it is our desire to obtain full UEFA academy status within three years and we would greatly appreciate the support of the community on this journey."
The first session takes place on Friday, October 4, at the Colcot Sports Centre astro turf facility (5.45pm), when all players wishing to continue as part of the development centre will be welcome.
Development centre sessions will then be held every Friday until December 6; resuming on January 24, 2014, through until March 28. A total of 20 sessions will, therefore, be held.
Costs for the full programme will be £100, made up of 2 x £50 instalments, payable at the start of each block of sessions. All cheques are made payable to Barry Town United AFC. The cost will cover training kit.
Club secretary David Cole will act as the primary contact for the development centre, and interested parties are asked to contact David on 07557 665 847 or by e-mail on firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm attendance and required training kit size.
All attending players will be required to bring appropriate footwear and clothing, along with their own drinks bottle.
