Curtin's heroics as Dinas take a point

DINAS POWYS 2
CHEPSTOW TOWN 2
AFTER a poor first half, when Dinas Powys looked as though they would be overrun, they picked themselves up to gain a share of the points.
Chepstow were straight on the attack in the Macwhirter Welsh Soccer League clash, forcing an early corner which was cleared.
A rare chance came Dinas' way when a good cross by Dimitri Fallas found Ryan Garland but his effort was off target.
Keeping the ball well, Chepstow spread the play and another chance came their way, with impressive Jason Thorn meeting a cross from the right and bringing a fine diving save from Dinas goalkeeper James Curtin. The same player then got the better of James Bloxham but shot over.
Dinas just couldn't seem to keep the ball and, consequently, their attacks broke down. Chepstow kept up the pressure and good inter-passing in the Dinas box by Rob and Jason Thorn gave the latter another chance but his effort was off target. The pressure eventually told when Jason Thorn was brought down in the box, and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty which Chepstow captain Richard Sharratt fired home.
The best Dinas could muster was a speculative shot from 40 yards by Carlos Indjai which sailed over the bar, and the visitors added to their tally two minutes from half-time when Jason Thorn played Rob Thorn in to slot the ball neatly in the corner for a deserved 2-0 lead.
Whatever player/manager Dave Penikett said to his team in the dressing room at half-time did the trick as they came out with much more purpose and determination and pulled a goal back after just three minutes. Good inter-passing by Indjai and Fallas resulted in a cross by the latter which found Ryan Garland at the far post and he slotted home.
Indjai then evaded two tackles to get in a dangerous-looking cross which was eventually cleared, but he continued to give the Chepstow left back a torrid time with his pace.
The visitors were still dangerous and, after a mazy run across the Dinas box, Jason Thorn laid the ball off to Richard Lloyd and his low shot brought another top drawer save from Curtin who had a superb game.
Dinas rang the changes by bringing on Chris Mayhill and Ben Ah-Mun for Luke Swaffield and Fallas and they soon made their presence felt. Linking up well, they set up Paul Dawes whose effort was blocked by a defender. At the other end Curtin had to be alert to thwart Chepstow attacks.
With just five minutes left, Dinas grabbed the equaliser when a Dave Penikett free kick found his brother, Paul, in a crowded penalty area and he slotted to ball home for a share of the points.
On September 28 Dinas travel to play Newport YMCA (kick-off 2.30pm) and they will be looking for a better all-round performance.
