Sparring workshops for U7s
12:02pm Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in Sport
THE Penarth Taekwon-do School has recently started sparring workshops for under 7s.
Sparring teaches the basics of taekwon-do as well as developing essential skills in children. Through the art of semi-contact sparring, children learn balance, self-control and discipline.
The children wear protective equipment so the chance of injury is minimal. However, through kicking and punching they develop strength, co-ordination and suppleness.
The current practitioners will be able to grade for yellow belt in November, and this will allow them access to four national competitions throughout the UK next year.
There are currently spaces for under 7s every Thursday in Glyndwr Hall. Other age groups are already carrying out sparring workshops every week, as well as practising the other disciplines of taekwon-do, and spaces are also available in the over 8s and adult categories.
