LOCAL teenager Trinity Hutchinson has become the first Welsh female to win a gold medal at the European Championships of the World Union of Karate-do Federation.
One of the most prestige events within the karate calendar, the event was held in Britain for the first time in Sheffield and attracted more than a thousand top students from all over Europe.
Taking top spot in her fighting category, Trinity, from the Karate Jutsu Club in Penarth, run be Lee Costa, was a member of a Karate Wales squad (coached by Robert Copeland, of Barry), which won several medals.
