SULLY SPORTS 4
YNYSHIR ALBION 3
PLAYING their first South Wales Senior Soccer League game for some time, Sully Sports entertained an uncompromising Rhonnda team who were fresh from a victory over First Division leaders North Cornelly.
Sports started at a fast pace and created a few good chances and, with the steady rain suddenly turning into a torrential downpour, both teams were doing a lot of slipping and sliding.
With the deluge ending, Sports took the lead when Luke Hanlon met a centre from Alex Long to fire home. However, the visitors hit right back and capitalised on some poor defensive play to equalise.
Sports' front three were causing problems for an overworked visiting defence and, when they gained a penalty for hand ball, Long netted the spot kick. Ynyshir, though, were also playing well and equalised for a second time before the break.
After the earlier rains, it was sunshine for the whole of the second half and Sports, rocked when the visitors took the lead for the first time, hit back with an equaliser following a crisp header from Gareth Hemmens.
With the Ynyshir defence now under siege, Long was hacked down as he went for goal and picked himself up to net his second penalty.
The incident also brought a red card for the offending defender and, with Ynyshir losing their discipline, play deteriorated in the later stages as Sports held on comfortably for a deserved victory.
This Saturday Sports are back in cup action in the Welsh FA Trophy when Welsh League Lisworthy are visitors to Swanbridge for a 2pm kick off ; players to report at club for 12.15pm.
Sports' Vale League side overwhelmed a struggling Cogan team 8-0 in a very scrappy First Division game and now sit in top spot.
