JUNIOR BOWLS WELSH CLUBS COMPETITION

ON Saturday, December 22, prior to the Christmas break, the Sully juniors travelled to Llandrindod Wells to play in the club's junior fours.

They were drawn against a good Rhondda four but the team, skipped by Rhys Phillips, started positively and were soon 4-1 ahead after three ends and with, lead Joe Coles and 2nd Jack Killin outplaying their opponents, the Sully boys went further ahead and after seven ends were in front by ten shots to one.

The Sully team were playing excellent bowls with 3rd Louis Peters drawing some brilliant shots while Rhys Phillips played some telling bowls turning one head over to make five shots. The Rhondda bowlers were bowling some good woods, especially there skip who actually killed two ends and took the ‘Jack’ back when they were a number of shots down to make a count of three. However, they were constantly under pressure and the game finally ended with Sully making two shots on the last end to secure a 17 shots to four win.

They have now qualified for the finals to played at Newport on February 16 also Coles, Peters and Phillips are playing in the junior triples finals to be played on February 8 at the Rhondda Indoor Bowling Club.

WIBA COMPETITIONS

A NUMBER of the Welsh National Indoor Bowling Association competitions are now in the latter stages with Sully bowlers having an interest.

In the open singles, Chris Ackland has won his way through to the quarter finals to be played at Newport IBC on Saturday, January 4, at 4pm, beating the legendary John Price on the way.

In the senior fours, the rink of G Cogbill, M Doyle, D Snelling and K McLeod have reached the semi-finals also to be played at the same venue starting at noon.

In other competitions G White and R Cowling have progressed to the 2nd round of the senior pairs, while in the over 50 triples to be played by January 12 - M Davies, R Richards, D Mason and P Taylor, P Critcher, C Ackland are the Sully trios.

Carl Best will represent Sully at Bodelwyddan in the Champion of Champions on January 25 and 26.

The National Clubs Championship recommences on January 11 with a game away to league leaders Blaenau Gwent where the Sully team will be trying to rediscover their form against formidable opponents.
