WITH a depleted side, following a string of withdrawals, Sully Indoor Bowls Club faced a tough task when they travelled to Abertillery to play league leaders Blaenau Gwent.

Hit by the loss of some leading players, all Sully rinks struggled to compete, with the fours of Phillips and McLeod suffering heavy defeats. The other Sully rinks, although battling hard, found themselves up against strong opponents and struggled to find any consistency on a carpet at least five yards quicker than that at Sully.

The end result was a resounding 175-72 win for Blaenau Gwent

to leave them well clear at the top of the league.

The disappointing aspect for Sully was that the rink of Mel Newman had just three players even after attempting to encourage other stadium members to play.

Club officials extend a big thank you to those players who stepped in at the last moment.

After a positive start to the campaign, there has been a loss of form and commitment by some Sully players and, with two games to go, the club can, hopefully, recover some sparkle and

reproduce the form that brought two wins in the first two games.

This Saturday Sully entertain second-placed Newport at 2pm.

In the the Welsh Indoor Bowling Association competitions, there was further disappointment for Sully players, with Chris Ackland losing 21-15 to Nigel Williams in the singles and

Cogbill/Doyle/Snelling/McLeod succumbing 23-13 in the fours event to Swansea after leading in the early ends.
