TWO players from the Vale Ladies' and Girls' Football Club - Jasmine Rowley (under 14) and Anais TrincI (under 12) - are celebrating call ups to the Welsh regional squad.

Having impressed coaches at the South Wales Performance Centre, the pair were invited to a Welsh regional training camp at the Dragon Park National Centre, Newport, in December.

Both players have worked extremely hard over the last four to five years to get to this stage and are now just one step away from the national set up, with both looking to progress to full international honours in the coming years.

The club is extremely proud to have representation in the Welsh regional squad, with the girls following in the footsteps of previous Vale players - Chloe Jones, Gwennan Davies, Rebecca Egerstrom and Georgia Peplow.

A club spokesman said: "Girls' football is becoming more and more popular and there are lots of opportunities for players wanting to progress and for those just wanting to play for fun."

Launched in April, 2012, the Vale club has quickly become one of the largest female football clubs in Wales, with over 100 registered players from the age of seven to seniors. The rapid growth of the club has been down to the creation of school-club links across the Vale and Cardiff areas, with taster sessions, school leagues, festivals and training programmes provided. The club was also recently selected to deliver the girls' section of the Cardiff and Vale Schools' Football.

Chairman and coach Luke Williams commented: "Girls' football has never been in better shape in the Vale than at present, with lots of development centres and school-based activity. Our vision is to one day develop a team able to compete at the top of the female game in Wales in the Women's Premier League.

"The steps we have taken in the last 18 months are instrumental to achieving this aspiration by inspiring girls into football from a young age.

"We want to encourage girls into sport through football and there has never been a better time to start playing with a strong league structure and roughly 40 clubs in the South Wales Women's and Girls' League.

"As a club we also pride ourselves in giving the girls the very best opportunities and inspiring experiences which is evidenced in our end-of-season presentation which will be held at the Cardiff City Stadium in May. We also enter festivals during the summer months, including trips into England."
