PENARTH and Dinas Runners are set to begin the new season with their first club championship fixture next weekend.

Runners will be taking part in the popular Lliswerry 8 mile road race on Sunday, January 26.

Entries to the Newport race have already sold out as many runners look to start their spring marathon training with a flat and fast race.

The race, which takes place around the lanes of Goldcliff and Nash villages on the edge of Newport, was first held in 1985 saw a record entry of over 680 runners of all capabilities take part in it last year.

Following Lliswerry 8 runners will be looking forward to taking part in the following club championship fixtures: Llanelli 10 mile race in February, Newport Half Marathon and Atlantic College 10k in March, the Cardiff Bay 5 miler and the SSAFA 5k (first race in the series) in May, the Caerphilly 10k in June, the Pontypridd 6 Loop in July, Brecon 10 miler in August, Swansea Bay 10k in September, Cardiff Half Marathon and the first Gwent League Cross Country fixture in October, and the Richard Burton 10k and Sospan 10 multi-terrain miler in November.

The presentation evening for last season, where winners from each age category as well as the overall men's and women's champions will be presented with their trophies, will be held at Penarth Rugby Club on Friday, January 24, at 7.45pm.

The running club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at Penarth Leisure Centre at 8pm on Monday, February 3, in Squash Court No 2. That evenings running club session will start at 6.30pm to allow time for the AGM.
