WESTBOURNE School and St Andrews Major Golf Club have joined forces to offer professional golf coaching to an enthusiastic and dedicated group of young pupils.

The children are coached each week by the golf club’s professional, John Hastings, at the excellent facilities at the club.

“They are making great progress and are a pleasure to teach," said John.

The pupils, who all attend Westbourne Junior School in Penarth, carry on with the lessons right through the year – no matter what the weather.

The highlight of the year is the annual school golf championships, which is played at the club, where the children are partnered by family members. Head teacher Tony Giannotti said: “We think it is very important for the children to not only learn how to play golf but to develop life skills of politeness, self discipline and respect which will stand them in good stead in later life.” He also acknowledged the excellent work the golf club does for junior golf in the area, with a large and thriving section within the club.
