THE people of Wales are being invited to lace up their trainers and join Parkinson's UK’s team of runners at the annual St David’s Day Run.

The St David’s Day Run takes place on Sunday, March 2, in Bute Park, Cardiff. Runners can choose from a 1K, 5K or 10K route so there is a distance to suit everyone. Families are welcome to take part and runners are encouraged to wear fancy dress.

Leading the charge will be Barbara Locke from Brynsadler, Rhondda Cynon Taf, who has recently been appointed as the new country director for Wales at Parkinson’s UK. Barbara is currently in training as she will be taking on the 10K challenge.

Barbara explains: “I am looking forward to running for Parkinson’s UK in such a popular and well-attended event. I’d like to invite everyone to dust off their trainers and join me on the day, so we can run together to help find a cure.

“In my new role of country director of Parkinson’s UK in Wales, I will be looking to increase awareness of Parkinson’s and the services and help available to people affected by the condition. I hope that by taking part in the run I will get the opportunity to speak to as many of our runners and supporters as possible. We need their help to start driving through the changes people with Parkinson’s in Wales so desperately need.”

Everyone who signs up will receive support from the charity throughout their training and fundraising. Runners will also receive a Parkinson’s UK branded breathable running vest, and a team of supporters from the charity will be there on the day to support and cheer runners on to the finish line. There is no minimum sponsorship target to take part.

All funds raised from the event will be spent on services to help improve the lives of the 6,000 people who are living with Parkinson's in Wales.
