YOUNG Penarth boxer Franky Strinati has put himself in line for a British title by winning a second successive Welsh championship.

In this year's Welsh Amateur Boxing Association's 64kg class junior B final, Franky, last year's 57kg winner, faced another reigning Welsh champion, Gelligaer's Ryan Williams (60kg).

With two champions clashing at the same weight, everything was set for a great bout, but Franky had his work cut out against a 6ft 2in opponent. Told by coach Neil Munn to go towards the body and come back up to the head, Franky followed the instructions perfectly and, keeping a tight, low stance, caught Ryan with some nice hooks. Indeed, so well did the improving Franky perform that he won all three rounds with some great boxing.

After the fight, Neil said: "We are now looking forward to going on to the British championships and, if Franky maintains his improvement, he stands a good chance of another title."
