SULLY SPORTS 5

FOCHRIW 1

BOUNCING back from the previous week's South Wales Senior Soccer League defeat at Brecon Corries and conceding an early goal in Saturday's home clash, Sully Sports emerged with a convincing win.

Arriving with some good recent results, including toppling the First Division leaders at their Rhymney Valley ground, Fochriw were gifted a 10th minute opener when the Sports failed to clear their lines.

However, Sports produced the best possible response and quickly equalised. Taking a reverse pass from Alex Long, Anthony Ferguson was tripped in the box and the former sent the 'keeper the wrong way from the spot.

Sports' very attack-minded line up continued to create chances and, following a good period of pressure, Long's fierce cross was diverted past the 'keeper by a defender.

After a stern half-time talk, Sports increased their lead when Ron Davies finished well and, following a long ball, Long outpaced his marker and beat the 'keeper. Unfortunately, for the visitors, who appealed for an offside decision, they lost their best player following a 'blast' at the referee.

After Dan Lawlor, following Long's centre, sidefooted past the 'keeper for Sports' fifth goal, the game fizzled out but it was three important points for Sports.

Sports: Kieron Sharratt, Andrew Townsend, Lewis James, Ed Jones, Liam Beddard, Taylor Harding, Aiden Lewis, Garon Davies, Anthony Ferguson, Conner McInery and Alex Long. Subs: Mark Brown, Dan Lawlor and Morgan Hopkins. Man-of-the-match: James.

This Saturday Sports travel to Butetown for an always difficult fixture; leave Lidl at 12.30pm.

Sports' Vale League side travelled to Wenvoe for a First Division game and returned with the three points thanks to two goals from Arran Longamo and one each from Ryan Warden, Wes Lamb and Chris Rees. Man-of-the-match was Anthony Jones.

This Saturday the side meet Cogan Coronation in a Supporters' Cup semi-final at a neutral venue.
