THE Women’s Running 10k Race Series is pleased to announce an exciting partnership with Breakthrough Breast Cancer this year.

The breast cancer charity is the official charity partner for the 2014 race series and organisers are encouraging women looking for a fundraising challenge to run and raise money for them at one of the races, one of which will be held at Bute Park, Cardiff.

Christina Macdonald, editor of Women’s Running Magazine said: "These events are suitable for all abilities and are a great way for women just starting out with running to take part in an organised race, while also being ideal for seasoned runners looking to achieve a personal best.

"The Women’s Running 10k Series is a great opportunity for women to fundraise for their chosen charity, although as our official charity partner, we would be delighted if entrants chose to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer."

2014 marks the second year of the Women’s Running 10k series, which is organised by Women’s Running. 2014 sees the event increase from three events to ten. The first year of the series saw events in Bristol, Nottingham and London, with almost 2,000 women taking part.

This year the race series will return to Bristol, Nottingham and Finsbury Park in London, while also extending to Lee Valley Country Park in London, Sutton Park in Birmingham, Bute Park in Cardiff, Southampton Common, Willen Lake in Milton Keynes, Sefton Park in Liverpool and Strathclyde Country Park in Glasgow.

Gavin Gowlett, national participation executive at Breakthrough Breast Cancer, said: "We’re really excited to be the official charity partner for the Women’s Running 10K Race Series. Signing up to these events is a great way to keep fit, have fun with your friends and help raise much-needed funds for our breast cancer research."

Women's Running pacers will be available at the events to help runners around the 10km course, helping them achieve their target time. These races are suitable for runners of all abilities, with team of four pacers available, targeting times of 50 minutes, 55 minutes, 60 minutes and a run/walk group aiming for approximately 70 minutes.

On race day runners can enjoy a group warm-up, led by an expert from Women’s Running Magazine. Entrants will also receive a technical t-shirt, a high quality drawstring goody bag and medal for every finisher. To finish the day there will be a post-race warm down with tea and cake and every runner will receive a personalised text message containing their race finish time and statistics from the day.

Gavin added: "It’s a sad fact that 1,000 women die every month from breast cancer in the UK and, with your help, we are dedicated to stopping this from happening. What’s more - taking part in physical activity is a great way to reduce your risk of developing breast cancer so we’d encourage everyone to raise their pulse this summer."

The race series is now open for entries, priced at £26. For more information, top training tips and to enter any of the ten events in the 2014 race series, go to www.wr10k.co.uk
