WITH the summer season well under way, Penarth Lawn Tennis Club welcomed a team from Wootton Bassett TC to Rectory Road for a pre-season friendly.

The match was the first ever meeting between the clubs and ended in an honourable draw.

PLTC fielded a mainly ‘mature’ team, including Gavin Seymour, Pete Drew, Dave Wilson, Geoff Morgan and Pete Jones, with the young guns, Tom Pegg and Joe Hall, joined at the last minute by Rory Wiltshire, who, at the age of 14, made his men's team debut.

After the match, PLTC were kindly presented with the Royal Wootton Bassett coat of arms plaque and umbrella and are now planning a return leg later in the season.

With the pre-season friendly played, Friday, April 4, marked the start of the season launch weekend when the club’s traditional Friday club night was given a special twist, with a special fun waves tennis tournament for adults and older juniors.

On Saturday, the club held a special junior open morning for members and non-members, and the following day saw the launch of the new Sunday afternoon social tennis.

The next big social event for PLTC minis and juniors will be the annual Easter egg hunt in the club’s beautiful grounds on Saturday, April 19. This is open to members and non-members and will include an Easter egg hunt, Easter games, fun tennis, optional fancy dress and much more. A small admission fee will be charged on the day.
