PENARTH RFC U12s 26pts

COWBRIDGE 12

THE Penarth Rugby Club U12s avenged a heavy defeat against their Vale rivals earlier in the season to reach the final of the Redrow Homes Blues Cup.

Both sides produced some great rugby, with Penarth's first try coming from centre Mason Grady.

Coached by former Welsh international Derwyn Jones, Cowbridge levelled the scores before Penarth edged ahead again with a captain's try by Evan 'Lloydee' Lloyd after a hard drive. Penarth soon scored again when Nick Haigue-Jones crashed through the line.

Following the break, Cowbridge came back with try and, with home supporters resorting to nailbiting, a succession of penalties conceded by Cowbridge used up valuable time and allowed Grady to kick for touch and the forwards to secure line out ball and drive forward. From one such move, Aled Rees popped through to book his side's place in the final at the Cardiff Arms Park on May 11. There were three conversions from Drew Musa.

Mention should be made of Morgan Verness, who hooked the ball against the head on a number of occasions, the hard work of the back row of Lloyd, Lewys Williams and Ryan Allen, the centre pairing of Grady and Dan Hayes and the hard, try-saving tackling of Ethan Mills, Haigue-Jones and Cameron Sultana. This was an all round, fantastic team performance, with each player contributing to the brilliant win.

Also thanks to ref Phillip Dacey.
