SULLY SPORTS 4

PONTLOTTYN 1

DESPITE a man-of-the-match performance by the visiting goalkeeper, Sully Sports continued their fine end-of-season South Wales Senior Soccer League run with this comfortable home victory.

In good conditions, Sully took a deserved lead after Daniel Lawlor was felled in the box and Alex Long stepped up to fire home the spot kick.

Having most of the play and despite the Pontlottyn 'keeper's heroics, Sports had most of the play and doubled their lead through 'birthday boy' Aiden Lewis. Dan Lawlor produced a fine effort for Sully's third but the visitors hit back before half-time.

Sully stayed well on top in the second half and, amid some close misses, Lawlor sent a shot crashing against the crossbar. However, Sully eventually stretched their lead when Long found Conner McInery on the far post and he slotted home.

Comfortably in front, Sports rang the changes, with the evergreen Fowler and Brown replacing the speedy Hanlon and the hard working Ferguson. Meanwhile, Lawlor carried on toiling and, on another day, would have notched a hat-trick.

This Saturday Sports entertain the Merthyr-based Penydarren in a game which usually produces lots of goals; kick-off 2.30pm; players to meet at club for 12.30pm.

FIRST DIVISION TITLE

Sully's Vale of Glamorgan League side clinched the First Division title with an emphatic 4-2 win over 'lodgers' FC Pumas.

Marksmen were Christopher Rees (three) and Ryan Boyles, while a penalty from substitute Ryan Warden was saved by the Pumas' 'keeper. The spot kick followed a mazy run by Chris Rees who was a thorn in the Pumas' side all game and linked well with Aaron Longomo and "Spud."

The midfield engine room of Wes Lamb, Boyle and Grayson worked tirelessly and the defence - Ashley Cottle, Halford and Kavanagh marshalled by captain Callum Lima Jones - stood strong in front of ever reliable goalkeeper Richard Sims.

In the second half, changes were made by coach Spencer Lamb, with Mike Sims, Rowden and Warden providing fresh legs. Ogden, Hywel and Jordan, who have also played their part during the campaign, will look forward to playing in the remaining games.

Coach Lamb and assistants James Kedward and Mike Sims were pleased that the title points came on home soil.

This Saturday Sports entertain FC Barry at Swanbridge in their last home game of the season.
