PENARTH U14s travelled to the land of the shamrock and leprechauns for a tour including three competitive matches for the bunch of 20 players, including three strays and a band of committed parents.

Following a bracing anticlockwise warm up run around the ferry deck led by Simon Reed, combined with some pre-match supplements from Dr Evans, the team embarked on the challenge against Waterpark RFC.

In a free flowing match Penarth out scored their opponents by 57 points to nil, with the pick of the tries scored by Ben Bushell Evans, Luc Pinball Adams and Josh Lewis, with a number of conversions by Joe and Ben, setting the scene for the matches at Dungarvan the following day.

With complete disregard for the proposed itinerary, Dungarvan RFC hosted Penarth and Derby RFC in a triangular tournament. Penarth faced Derby first after their spine chilling Haka and duly put their English counterparts to the sword by 69 points to 10, including tries by Geraint, Tom J, Josh, Henry, Luc, Morgan and debutant Jack Twinkle, again complemented by Joe and Ben's conversions and almost a try by Tom G who damaged his gusset in stretching too early for the try line.

In the latter stages of the match Penarth duly lowered their playing numbers to keep Derby in the game which allowed them to cross the whitewash twice. With no time to rest Penarth faced Dungarvan on the main pitch, looking to settle some scores from last years defeat.

Penarth started well with Morgan judging an interception pass to perfection and racing clear to score from 60 metres, Ben converted. Dungarvan soon hit back with a try after a number of quick rucks to make it all even. This kickstarted the Penarth team into action and proved to be Dungarvan's only score. Penarth went on to score a further five tries through Ben J, Henry, Josh and Tom J from some free flowing forward and back play combined with some well placed kicks into space for the speed men to chase, making the final score 32-7 in Penarth's favour.

The customary exchanges of awards were made after the game albeit in superhero costumes for all players, coaches and parents, followed by a rousing sing song and kangaroo court session where all misdemeanours were duly punished by Gandalf and Marion John Wayne.

Thanks to Declan Frankie Howard for all his organisation and efforts organising the tour and for the superb attitude and behaviour shown by all players and parents involved, especially Gareth who eventually found his lost peg, proving this to be a very worthwhile experience and again improve the cohesion of this great bunch of players.
