THE PENARTH Lawn Tennis Club ladies' teams have all made a flying start in the South Wales summer leagues, with all three undefeated after five matches.

PLTC’s ladies' first team started the season with a win against a strong Cardiff Castle Third team. Despite being without the club's recording breaking ladies' singles champion, Alex Robinson, the team notched up a 4-2 win thanks to a great win for Caroline Hazell and Steph Rees over Cardiff's first pair.

Also enjoying a very strong start to the season, the ladies' second team have recorded wins in their first three matches against David Lloyd’s Fifths, Radyr Thirds and Rhiwbina Thirds.

The club's ladies' Thirds started the season with a draw against Llantrisant.

The men's Firsts and Seconds have had a slower start to the summer season, with player availability hampering their chances, but the teams look forward to the return of key players for the next few fixtures. The men’s third team has had a stronger start, with 5-1 wins against both Penarth Windsor Fourths and Cardiff Castle’s sixth team.

The junior teams have had an action-packed start to the season, with 14 teams competing in matches across South Wales. Despite a few matches being postponed over the last few weeks due to poor weather conditions, most teams have now completed one or two league matches, with notable success for the girls' 12 and Under team of Lucy Jones and Zoya Yousef who have notched up two wins out of the first three matches in their league.

While other matches were postponed last weekend due to the wet and blustery weather, the club's 10 & under B team showed great commitment and team spirit playing a more experienced Cardiff Castle team in the high winds at the Rectory Road club last Saturday. In tough conditions, the team battled to complete the match and, despite losing, came away with huge smiles on their faces.
