MAKING a belated start to the season, Penarth Cricket Club youngsters have quickly made their mark.

The U11 (Greens) started their season well with a good win at newly-promoted Miskin. All the team did very well in extremely hot conditions, taking catches and wickets a plenty. The batting showed real potential, particularly in the power plays, hitting plenty of fours. Well done all the team. Da iwan ti!

The Under 11 (Golds) ensured a flying start to the season with a comfortable victory at Cowbridge. Powerful batting from Steff Crimp and Gregg Cross, controlled bowling from Adam Grosfils and Joe Duffy and good work behind the stumps by Rhys Knapper all contributed to a solid victory.

This made up for the disappointment of the previous Sunday when the U10s representative match - Cardiff County and the Vale of Glamorgan versus Berkshire - due to take place at the Rec fell victim to the weather. No fewer than four Penarth youngsters were set to take part.

The U13 (Golds) made heavy weather of a win against the Welsh Asians. A solid all round bowling performance reduced the Blackweir-based opposition to 43 all out, with Will Skone taking three wickets. Nine bowlers kept the score to a low total helped by a lush outfield.

The Penarth reply wobbled and, at 17 for five, things looked bleak, but Will Skone and Matt Frost turned the game around and eased the side to a five-wicket victory.
