HAVING secured the league title midweek this remaining league fixture still had purpose as Cogan Coronation u13s aimed to go undefeated, and two goals would take them past the 200 mark for the season.

Playing into the wind first half, on a pitch that resembled a cows field with long unkept grass and muddy puddles in other parts, Cogan struggled to get any rhythm to their play. And a resilient Cowbridge side giving their all to spoil the party.

Although Cowbridge rarely threatened, Cogan could only muster long range efforts and were unable to convert chances when decent balls were delivered into the box. As what can only be described as a drab first half drew to a close.

During the interval manager Lee 'Packer' Williams made changes and reverted back to a more conventional line up and soon began to reap the rewards.

Flying winger Cam Gauci drove down the left and slid an inch perfect pass for striker Sam Green to tuck away against his former club for the opener.

This settled the boys down and they began to stroke the ball around as much as conditions would allow.

Cian McCarthy whose recent form and attitude has been magnificent soon doubled the lead with a confident first time strike from the edge of the area, that flew into the roof of the net.

After a minor Cowbridge dispute and change of match ball, the third came from a poor goal kick that was returned back into the area and coolly dispatched by the deserving Luke Warlow.

Cogan now in full flow scored a fourth after a good passage of team play and intricate passing ended up at the feet of Eithan Singh, who calmly picked his spot and dispatched it past the keeper. Cowbridge kept going and got themselves a consolation goal after complacency at the back, left keeper Luke Birnage with no chance.

Inevitably it was Green who had the final say in the match as he chased down a ball over the top and coolly rounded his good friend and Cowbridge keeper Hartman and slot the ball into the empty net with a big smile on his face.

At the final whistle more champagne and singing as the league shield for year eight was presented to skipper Cam Gauci.

Undoubtedly this has been a freak season as records tumbled. 20 wins, two draws and no defeats. 203 league goals scored and only 9 conceded. Cam Gauci (50), Luke Warlow (39) goals.

The players and parents would like to thank the Cogan Coronation Club for the hospitality back at the after party celebrations and drink.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the presentation evening which looks like it could be a long night.
