WITH the summer season in full swing, Penarth Windsor Lawn Tennis Club is combining on court success with a range of events for new and existing players.

The club's teams have been in action in their respective Tennis Wales Leagues, with over 150 players in action. Stand-out performers include the ladies' 3rd, 4th and 5th teams plus the men's 1sts, who all stand in the top two places in their division and hope for promotion. For the ladies' 1sts, there is no promotion to chase as they sit top of the highest Premier 1 division as the No 1 team in South Wales to date.

The success continues at mini and junior levels, with the club's 8&U and 9&U A teams set to finish second in South Wales, and the 9&U B, 14&U Boys, 16&U Boys and 16&U Girls all topping their respective divisions and awaiting play-offs against other league winners.

Following the record-breaking summer party and Great British Tennis Weekend open day, the club welcomes ex-Wimbledon and Davis Cup players Danny Sapsford and James Auckland this Sunday for a Masterclass Day including doubles coaching, exhibition matches, off court activities and more. Whilst tickets to play are sold out, members and guests are encouraged to come along to watch the action and savour the atmosphere.

In partnership with Tennis Wales and Sport Wales, Windsor are running free ladies' beginner coaching sessions on June 28 (4pm) and July 2 (5pm). Players will be treated to a preview of the Tennis Xpress curriculum - a short-course to get new and rusty players playing competitive doubles within six weeks. Further outreach initiatives have taken place at local primary, secondary and disability schools, and Windsor is also hosting primary and secondary schools' tournaments.

Commenting on the club's progress, head coach Robert Wedlake said: "With so much activity across all ages and standards, I am not surprised to see membership numbers so high at Windsor. The level of activity on the courts is remarkable and credit must go to the club's committee and team captains for their organisation. Success at South Wales level starts with grassroots tennis and it's great to see this success across the board."
