IN yet another local 'derby,' Penarth Windsor bowlers were unable to build on their recent Munro Cup success against Rectory Road.

On this occasion - an Alliance League game - Rectory Road triumphed 61-53 after close battles on all rinks. John Hardess secured a draw for Windsor, while the Ken Trenchard and Phil Parry fours both lost by just one shot.

Sitting top of the Munro Cup competition, the men of Windsor expected and received a very strong challenge from Barry Athletic, but, with outstanding performance from the rinks of Scottish laird Ken McLeod, fast food millionaire Tony Holmes and Formula 1's Matthew Woodcock, the team triumphed 73-62 to secure 12 valuable points.Yet again, captain Paul Gunter and coalition colleague Artie Woodcock, despite fighting like tigers, fell just short of the line.

The PG 2 match against St Fagans was another nailbiter, with Windsor victors by just two shots. This was almost entirely due to Tommy Owen, Don Stafford, Dave Brenton and Mike Fullbrook, the club's most adaptable player, with their 30-14 success making amends for the drubbing handed out to Mike Lloyd-Jones and compatriots Steve Ellard, John Worlock and Alan Dudley.

The club ladies, having raided their amenity funds, were outmuscled by Dinas Powys (Murch) despite the redoubtable Moyra Owen and her gals who collected a super seven on the last end.

Normal service was resumed on Thursday with a fine victory and eight points against Roath Park.

One of the great joys at Windsor has been the influx of so many ladies over the past couple of seasons and, with the assistance of the coaches, headed by Diane Thomas, their progress has been phenomenal.

So it was no surprise, after a run of defeats, to see many of them playing, and acquitting themselves so well, in a win over Millwood (Barry). The rinks were: M Huntley, E Lane, L Thomas and Chris Gunter (skip) and P Farrell, J Stockton, M Coughlan and Lars White (skip). Well done ladies. Keep up the good work - and enjoy.
