PENARTH and Dinas Runners completed the full marathon distance in under three hours during a club relay last week.

Each member of the club tackled a mile around the Cardiff International Sports Stadium track as they bid to complete the full 26.2mile marathon distance.

With stopwatches at hand and a military style schedule each runner’s time was totted up to see how long it would have taken the club to run a marathon the full distance.

A mile worked out as four laps of the 400m track, with club member Judy Maragna being given the honour of completing the last 200m leg.

The fastest runner on the night, which took place in wet track conditions on Friday, was Gary Brown in 5.20.

Next up was Andy Jones in 5.30, Ian Warburton in 5.52 and Paul Mitchell in 5.54.

Clem Clement served up 5.58, while Marc Durkin also sneaked under six minutes with 5.59.

Chris Seal and Malcolm Bradley both finished with 6.01, while Dave Hoole achieved 6.30, Glenn Powell 6.40 and Lyn Evans 7.10

Malcolm Bradley finished with 6.13 in his second attempt, while Paul Mitchell achieved 6.12.

Cath Tailby was the fastest woman with 6.25, while Debbie Evans and Lisa Cleary weren’t far behind with 6.27 and 6.28 respectively.

Louise Hunt notched up 6.36, Claire Phillips achieved 6.42, Danielle Rayner 7.26, Yvonne Williams 7.27, Jo Hunt 7.42, Sara El-Khatib 7.56, Janice Clement 8.04, Mandy Barrington 8.03 and Judy Maragna 8.52.

Louise Hunt ran 6.40 in her second attempt, while Judy Maragna finished off the relay with 1.20.

the total time for the club marathon relay was 2.55.28.

On Sunday, July 6, several members from the club also took part in the Llanelli 10k race.

Lyn Evans took two minutes off his Caerphilly 10k time to finish in 51.12, while in her debut running for the club Jo Hunt clocked 56.08.

Penarth and Dinas Runners will be hosting their annual Cosmeston Relays on Wednesday, July 16. Entry for teams of three, or four for senior men and masters from running clubs, must be made by post before Tuesday, July 15. For more information go to:http://www.penarthanddinasrunners.org.uk/
