FOLLOWING dire warnings of the potency of the Cardiff Cameos Cricket Team (all good quality Indian players) there was some trepidation in the Mackintosh camp prior to the start of this scheduled 18 over FTL League encounter at Pontcanna Fields in Cardiff on Tuesday, August 5.

The Cameos chose to bat on winning the toss in perfect light, and on a placid wicket. For Mack, Evan Rees produced a good controlled 3 over spell culminating in a breakthrough in his final over when he took a fine caught and bowled effort inched from his face.

At the other end newcomer Jaz, for Mack, our very own Indian, also delivered a promising 3 over spell containing the Cameos to moderation. The mercurial Chris Howe then produced 3 overs of pace as first change bowler and was rewarded with a wicket, and again with the aid of some defensive field placings, the Cameos were unable to cut loose.

Skipper, and slow bowler Sam German, then produced a spell of somewhat wayward bowling which appeared to nonplus the Cameos even further from their already less than impressive display of batting, and what with a confident middle stump LBW appeal being refused, and then having a relatively straight forward chance to long on being ‘caught’, and then dropped, German decided it wasn’t his night.

However, the plan was working well, and with only 60 on the board after 15 overs. The Mack looked odds on to win. It was then that the heavens finally opened and torrential rain, which caused complete abandonment of the match, set in.

This was a pity, because the potent siblings, Chris and Mike Howe, it was felt, could have made short work of this modest total, when batting in tandem.
