FOR the third summer in succession the Old Penarthians RFC Mini and Junior section ran three one-day summer camps at the club, brilliantly run by volunteers and fantastically supported by GM2 Financial Services based in Penarth.

The three days were run on consecutive Wednesdays and organised and run by volunteers from the club who provided various rugby activities, drills and games during the day, with lunch provided in the clubhouse with rugby themed quizzes.

Chairman of the Old Pens Mini and Juniors Section Rob Crimp said: "It’s a great addition to our Mini and Junior programme that is continuing to grow and strengthen year on year. We’re very lucky to have a core group of parent coaches who supported the delivery of the days on and off the field. A huge thank you must go out to them for making it happen. It has really set the club up for an exciting 2014/2015 rugby season."

Children aged from six to 13 years old from across the Vale attended, all mixing in and experiencing some fantastic rugby activity at a time of the year when rugby isn’t the most commonly played sport. The camps were fully inclusive ensuring that they complemented some of the core rugby values of teamwork, sportsmanship and competition for all.

The camps were supported by the Vale of Glamorgan Sports Development team and generously sponsored by GM2 based in the Washington Buildings in Penarth. Nic Swetman, from GM2, said: "We were delighted to be able to support this year’s Not So Old Pens Summer Camps. The camps provide additional sporting opportunities for children in the Vale and we were happy to help in any way we could."

The Summer Camps will be back again at the start of the 2015 summer holidays and the hope is they will continue to build on this year’s success and increase the children of Penarth’s and surrounding areas opportunities to play throughout the year.
