Sully Sports first team opened their league campaign with a tough home tie against a very tricky Cardiff team in AFC Butetown.

Starting the season on the back of some great results against Welsh league opposition Sully were keen to take this form in to the league fixtures.

They started brightly with some good early possession although the crossing positions created were foiled and fizzled out in to nothing.

Shortly after Dan Lawlor was put through from a Lewis through ball and the forward slotted home calmly one on one with the goal keeper to give sports the lead. This goal took some nerves off the Sully shoulders and moments later they were 2-0 up after being awarded a penalty from a clumsy challenge in the area. Alex Long stepped up and converted the penalty with great authority.

AFC Butetown started to then pose a threat at the other end and a clumsy challenge on the edge of the sully area resulted in a free kick to the visitors in which it was converted with a great strike from Bute's Kieron Actie. The Cardiff team seemed to have their tails up now and Sports knew they would have a game on there hands.

Sully then added a killer blow when Captain Aiden Lewis faked a shot on the edge of the box turning back on his right to curl a worldie in to the top right hand corner leaving the Butetown keeper in admiration as well as the applauding spectators on the line. An unfortunate own goal shortly after provided Sully with a 4-1 half time lead.

The second half came and Butetown offered very little with Sully retaining possession very well. A back four of Hopkins, Lamb, Jones and Miles with Sharratt in goals kept Butetown under wraps and dealt with any threat posed.

Lawlor then added a fourth taking his tally to two for the game after some great play down the left hand side meeting a Alex Long centre to guide the ball home. Then Townsend burst into the box with defenders desperately hacking at him eventually got the shot in that was saved by the goalkeeper.and it was then Lawlor who completed his hat trick finishing well inside the box completing an impressive display.
