NO ONE could say that it has been a good season for Penarth Cricket Club, inconsistency; unavailability and complacency have all contributed to a poor season but more of that next time. On Saturday the sun shone and the two teams in action performed admirably.

The first eleven travelled to Sudbrook, never an easy venue but they came away with a victory from a game that went to the last over. Your correspondent does not have all the match details but Penarth required 6 to win from the last over chasing a fairly modest total. Only 2 wickets remained but Richard Skone took it upon himself to resolve the issue with a tremendous six over the pavilion giving Penarth a rare win over their Gwent opponents.

The second eleven were playing the same opposition at the Athletic Field. To everyone's surprise Sudbrook won the toss and elected to bat on a very damp and green wicket. Not surprisingly they were reduced to 109 for 9 from the agreed 35 overs. James Docherty taking 3 for 23 and Morgan Crimp 2 for 27. In reply Penarth easily knocked off the runs for the loss of only 2 wickets. James Erasmus scoring 27 and Pete Docherty finishing the game on 39 not out. Penarth claiming the maximum 20 points.

Saturday evening saw a thoroughly entertaining race night at the club which raised a useful £300 for club funds much thanks must go to Tom Parkinson, Rhys Morgan and their team of helpers.

Next week see the first and second eleven playing Pentyrch home and away respectively in the penultimate games of the season.
