PENARTH took a midweek 6 rink mixed team to Cowbridge last week and hoped that the new playing surface would suit their combined skills. However weather conditions of wind and persistent drizzle dictated that the game would be curtailed at 15 ends. Overall Penarth struggled to find any real consistency and eventually went down by 20 shots (69 - 89). Penarth did achieve 3 winning rinks consisting Brian Knight, Diana Willcocks, Phil Davies and Nick Chandler (15 - 13), Barbara Brown, Don Butler, Lawrence Brooke and Bob Hill (14 - 12), Norma Duggan, John Bowen, Sue Croll and Peter Small (16 - 10).
Saturday saw the visit of Mackintosh for the penultimate PG1 encounter. A close contest saw Penarth triumph by 77 to 70 and secure 10 points. The 2 winning rinks were Berwyn Lansley, Rob Grant, Haydn Trow and Colin Grant (24 - 14) and Gareth Rosser, Dick Edwards, Dave Clements and Nick Chandler (27 - 17). This 20 point advantage was sufficient to overhaul the losing rinks' deficit - Ron Maggs (15 - 21) and Dave Dalby (11 - 18).
This coming weekend sees the culmination of the internal Club competitions with finals commencing at 10am on Saturday 6. Spectators are encouraged to attend to witness what promises to be an exciting and quality bowling over the two days.
