HAVING won the Cardiff and Vale u11 league with an unbeaten record of played 10 won 10, they hosted the league play-off final against Radyr cricket club. Radyr won the toss and asked Penarth to bat on a damp wicket. The team battled well to make a solid total of 254, with batting proving to be difficult against an accurate attack. When asked to bowl the Penarth team kept their nerve bowling with excellent control and discipline to restrict the batsmen to mainly singles with very few boundaries scored. The game came to its climax in the last four overs with Radyr needing just 18 runs to secure victory, the Penarth bowlers kept their nerve, supported by energetic fielding to reduce all scoring options and stop most scoring shoots. With just one ball to bowl, in a magnificent final, played in great spirit by both sides, Radyr needed 3 runs, but a great Yorker prevented any chance and Penarth were victorious! The whole team played their part and this is the second year in succession that the u11's have won the play off final, a great achievement for this Vale side in a Cardiff league.
