DINAS Powys Ladies played against Sully Ladies with Dinas Powys winning 5 -3.

On a bright warm sunny afternoon the Villagers started their season off with a bang. Nao, H Beddoe and Ellen Phillips had great chances to open the scoring as they were all clean through with only the Sully keeper to beat, but credit to the visiting keeper she stood strong.

Sully then took the lead totally against the run of play after poking home a scrappy goal from a corner. Changes were made and Dinas got their passing game from the back working, feeding the front girls with quality balls. Sully decided to play a highline which allowed Dinas to get in behind and after Ellen was brought down in the box skipper Emma Bridgeman slotted the pen home. Sully had a few chances but the back three coped with the long balls very well. As the half time approached Nao again exposed the Sully defence and slotted home from a tight angle.

The second half saw the home side fly out the blocks as Sam Saunders fed Nao to add number 3 minutes after the restart. The game then went end to end and Sully were piling on the pressure. Sully then had a somewhat dubious free kick on the edge of the box, which the Sully midfielder slotted home. The next goal was vital and the home side continued to play out using their back three to build off. Sully hit the wood work with a pile driver but the home side were in no mood to let this lead slip. Tracey White proved a big strength in the middle as Jo Jones and Saunders looked to feed the strikers with through balls. Ellen Phillips scored a worldie to stretch the lead latching on to a Nao pass.

As the impressive White and Lewis left the pitch an injection of pace was added in Brook Howell and Molly Chapman. Molly certainly made an impression on her debut as she out ran the fullback and following a brave challenge from the home keeper slotted home the fifth.

With only a few minutes remaining Sully scored their 3rd from a similar free kick giving the talented Harold no chance.

Big displays from big players today no one left anything on the pitch which is key to success at any level. Welldone Ladies, player of the match on her home debut Leanne Pattemore.
