A TEN man Sully Centurions travelled to Rogerstone on the last day of the league season and were well beaten by the talented home side. Batting first Rogerstone lost an early wicket when Adam Sylvester bowled L Harry for a duck to leave the score on seven for two. But this was to prove a false dawn as A Harry and Holdaway put on 45 for the second wicket – and then Harry and Tutton amassed 144 in a match winning third wicket partnership. Sylvester was the best of the Centurions bowlers, with three for 47, but although a total of seven wickets fell, the home side had put 318 runs on the board by the end of the innings, with Harry being finally run out for a fine 150.

The Centurions innings was a disaster, with wickets tumbling at regular intervals. Extras was the top scorer with 22. The innings was all over by the 24th over, with a paltry 72 being the final score. A disappointing end to the season, but given the circumstances surrounding the club before the season started, it has been an achievement to complete the fixtures with a relatively young side. 2015 will be a challenge, but all at the club are confident it can be a much more successful one, with the valuable experience of this year under their belt.

Rogerstone 318-7 Sully Centurions 72 all out

2nd XI The seconds match was an altogether closer affair. Hosting Rogerstone 2nd XI at Burnham Avenue, Centurions came up just short in the final over. The visitors won the toss and batted first and, on a dry pitch, openers Green (48) and Trinder (52) shared a century opening stand before Green was bowled by Ricky Griffett in the 29th over. Liam Bennett had Trinder caught by the reliable Mark Burnett, with the score on 126 before Ryall (7) was trapped lbw by Tom Pascoe and then Dinesh (42) was Bennett’s second victim on 181 for four. Reece Bennett and birthday girl Emma Davies bowled well for no reward. Liam Bennett took all of the other wickets to fall, finishing on five for 46, as Rogerstone ended their innings on 203 for seven.

In reply, Centurions had a slow start before Ricky Griffett began finding the gaps and soon the runs were flowing. For the second week running Griffett ended with a century, finally being caught off the bowling of Ryall in the last over for 120. Dave Sylvester completed his 50 not out but the total was six runs short of the target and the season ended with a narrow defeat for Centurions.

Sunday Friendly

On Sunday Centurions played touring side Parkend in an end of season friendly. Batting first, Sully lost the early wicket of Cameron Sleeth, but Adam Sylvester and Jake Griffett shared a half century stand for the second wicket before Griffett fell for 41. Another decent partnership between Sylvester and Lloyd Bruce took the score along to 90 after 25 overs. Adam was joined by Shae Ellis, who shared another half century stand before Ellis went for a quick 28. Ten runs later, after completing his half century, Adam Sylvester departed with the score on 160 for five. Unfortunately the tail end was skittled out for just a further 18 runs – with Centurions all out for 176. Andrew, who posted bowling figures of three for just eight runs, along with James (two for 32) and Parsons (two for six) did the damage for Parkend.

After tea, the visitors lost the wicket of James, who was bowled by Ashton with the score on 22. However a second wicket partnership between Aldridge (17) and Andrew (33) of 60 set them on the right track. In spite of wickets for Tom Pascoe (one for 21) Adam Sylvester (two for 23) and Griffett (two for 31) the target was reached in the 26th over.
