WELSH FA Cup qualifying round 2

Penrhiwcieber Rangers 2 - Sully Sports 3

The Glassbrook field at Penrhiwcieber was in good condition for this cup tie. Sully was hoping to continue their fine run of results against Welsh League teams. Sports started well with some slick passing movements with Long and Lawlor causing problems for the home defence. Sports had to alert to the quick break that the home team were using and Sharratt had to save well. It was Sports who nearly broke the deadlock when a great Alex Long/Dan Lawlor interpassing move ended with Long curling the ball against the cross bar with the grateful keeper picking up the rebound. Wes Lamb found space to rifle a shot that just eased over the crossbar. That proved to be the marker as a rocket shot from Lamb thudded against the post and bounced down on the line and was cleared. The good play saw Sully again pushing for a goal and it was Alex Long who cut in from the left after a fine pass from Eddie Jones and shot past the keeper for the Sully lead at the break.

With Sian Lee (physio) busy at the interval the players were geared up for the second half.

Within minutes of the second half Sports were two up with Long again to the fore beating the keeper. Sully were well deserved of the lead and could well have gone further ahead but the big Home defender struck a great length of the field pass to give the striker the chance to pull a goal back which lifted them and they equalized soon after. The game then saw Sully with still the better chances and with extra time looming after good work from Mcinery and Lewis a great cross from Long saw Mark Brown volley home from six yards for the winner. The Sully rearguard stood tall with strong tackles from Brody and Townsend to see out the last minutes for a deserved win for Sully and they look forward to the next round where they will visit Ammanford of the Welsh league Division three. MOM Alex Long. Thanks to Rhys Lewis and Physio Sian Lee

This Saturday Sully is in FAW Trophy action when they visit Splott Albion at Llanrumney University complex kick off 2pm.

Sully Sports Second team entertained SP construction of the Vale premier league Vale Cup at Swanbridge though short of a host of regulars they gave a brave display almost causing a shock and the depleted team with two further injuries seeing them go down to nine men in the second half the team performed excellently with a goal from Kyle Lewis in a 1-2 defeat, the side can now look forward to the Wenvoe home clash this Saturday with its hoped a full turn out.
