THE St Cyres Y7/8 Girls’ Tennis team played in the South Wales Schools Tennis Finals at The David Lloyd Tennis Centre in Cardiff, qualifying by winning the Vale of Glamorgan tournament.

The girls had a bye in the first round and then had to play Pembroke School.

Sophie Thomas won her singles very comfortably 4 - 0. Amelia Davidson had a tougher match but came through winning 5-3. Leah Owen lost 4-2 and Kayleigh Parsons won a very tense match 4-2.

This was a crucial win as the girls only had to win one of the doubles matches. Amelia and Sophie managed to get that vital to win to send the girls into the final.

In the final the girls faced Dwr-Y-Felin from Neath. They had a very strong team which St Cyres could not quite match up to on the day but Amelia and Sophie did manage to get a win in their doubles game.

The girls took the runners up spot in the South Wales tournament, which is an achievement the whole school is very proud.

The school said they would like to thank Tennis Wales for organising the event and the David Lloyd Tennis Centre for hosting the event.
