SATURDAY’S South Wales FA Senior League Division Two fixture saw Cogan Coronation travel away to face a potential banana skin tie versus Llanrumney United. However, for the second week running Cogan completely dominated the game from start to finish, and the 0-3 score line could’ve been twice as much.

From the kick off Cogan went on the attack with some neat looking pass and move football. This set out the intention, and indeed, the format of the match that saw the ‘Coro’ building attacks through possession play and a continual attacking mentality.

Llanrumney were quick with their counter attacking football, but the Cogan defence remained focused, hard working and resolute all game, which helped to secure a second clean sheet in a row. This was an added delight due to having a make shift central defensive partnership of Gavin Beddard and Leigh Bennett, whom both played excellent; as did man of the match Haidn Dibble.

And it was Club Captain Haidn Dibble that opened the team’s goal scoring around the 20 minute mark, by firing home a ferocious shot from the edge of the opposition’s penalty area. This goal came after the build up play of 15 consecutive team passes and was the result of a wonderful piece team work and a fine finish from Haidn.

Cogan Coronations second goal was the result of a fantastic individual effort from striker Paul Jones. After chasing the ball down some 30 yards out from goal but on the far left hand touchline, Paul won a sliding tackle. And keeping the ball in play and rising to his feet, he set off on a goal bound run, dribbling past one defender, tapping the ball past another to run around him and surge into the box. Now Paul powered his way past two more defenders and toe poked the ball past the diving keeper to score a superb solo effort.

After the half time break Llanrumney tried their best to get back into the game and they never gave up once. However, a goal line clearance from keeper Ed Smith and high energy performances from Cogan’s players meant that they were always going to secure the win.

The final goal came after right back Bradley Munn went on a mazy run near the opposition’s penalty box; taking on three opponents before getting the ball stuck under his feet and tripping over it. The ball rolled back to Jonny Matthews, and whilst everyone else was laughing at Bradders on the floor, Jonny looked up to see the keeper off of his line and with precision lofted a 35 yarder over the Llanrumney keeper to secure a 0-3 away victory for Cogan Coronation.

The all-round excellent performances from the whole squad sees Cogan remain at the top of the league table with the home fixture versus Cefn Cribwr to come this Saturday, kick off 2pm at Cogan Rec.
