SULLY Sports played against Splott Albion in the FAW Trophy round two with Sully winning 11-0.

Sully travelled to the University of Wales Sports complex at Llanrumney for this second round cup tie. With the home side being members of the second division of the Amateur League they were all out prove a point after a change of rules led them to being relegated last season to the second division. The usual high standard of the pitches at the complex were not as good as they were due to drainage work in the summer but they were still pretty good.

Sully started well with some good possession football and Splott struggled to get into the game. The visitors had three very good efforts saved by the keeper before Dan Lawlor put them in front. It was soon to be two as Lawlor again was too fast for the Splott rearguard. Chris Rees found space in the box to score in the corner and a Solo goal from Lawlor saw him jink along the goal line to shoot and the deflection looped into the goal. Alex Long was giving the defence a torrid time and his perfectly flighted free kick saw centre back Anthony Storer score his first goal for the club with a deflected header into the corner of the net.

With A five goal buffer Sports rested the hard working Lawlor and A first season game saw Luke Hanlon take the right front spot. Alex Long scored the sixth goal as Splott were at sixes and sevens with Luke Hanlon outpacing the full back to finish well. The Sports defence were not really tested and Alex Long completed a perfect move with a bullet header past the keeper. Another goal this time a fine drive from Hanlon made it nine with Long completed his hat trick and Conner Mcinery hit a left footer from the edge of the box. Man of the Match Mark Bown.

There will be far more difficult tests for a rampant Sports team next Saturday as they entertain a very strong Cornelly team at Swanbridge in a league game kick off 2pm.

A disappointed second team came a cropper against a good Wenvoe side at Sully in the league and were no match for the vale team who recorded a very impressive win at a weekend Sully team could not follow up last week’s impressive Barry cup performance.

Elsewhere the Sully Ladies went down at Newport and hope to have more luck at Cardiff City on Sunday, however Sully Sports youth side had another victory under their belts beating a strong Rhoose side 6-1. The Youth visit Llanrhumney on Sunday.
