Stanwell School has recently been awarded WRU School of Rugby status.
The award was presented at the annual Sports Award Ceremony by Dale McIntosh, Cardiff Blues Defence Coach, and was first launched by Wales scrum half Lloyd Williams.
It rewards schools that show a commitment to the development of rugby and recognises high standards of provision for playing and coaching opportunities with high numbers of fixtures in different aspects of the game; touch, atomic and both male and female rugby.
The selected schools have also demonstrated a commitment to delivering rugby leadership qualifications as part of the Welsh Baccalaureate and they support the provision of rugby opportunities within the wider community and in feeder primary schools.
Mr Chris Ower, WRU Rugby Development Manager, said: "The WRU Development Department are pleased to recognise Stanwell as a proactive rugby school who run all age groups across the school, played 50 plus fixtures last season and work closely with WRU Player Development Officer for Vale Of Glamorgan Christian Hitt. The school are also part of the new 20013-14 Blues South Senior Schools League."
Mr Dan Connor, PE teacher at Stanwell, added: “The award highlights the dedication and commitment shown by pupils and staff in providing as many opportunities as possible to experience the game of rugby at all levels of ability. With strong foundations in place and support from the WRU rugby at Stanwell will continue to go from strength to strength”.
