AS Sully Sports warmed up for the game, the heavens opened and the thunder roared, but the players and coaches remained upbeat and focused on the task in hand.

However as kick off loamed the rain had gone and the sun was shining, so we entered another hard 80 minutes.

Right from the kick off Sports showed their intent with some barn storming runs and pressure on the Tongwynlais line, but the visitors hung on in there. Ill discipline and the referee not seeing everything, Tongwynlais were allowed to break out and score an easy penalty. This was much the case for all game, with Sports squandering chances and missing opportunities.

However Jody Velda, Ben Such and Jamie Griffiths ensured the visitors went away learning a thing or two at scrummage time, backed by the rest of the forwards. Jake (SHARK EYE) Williams was on song with the boot ensuring conversions and penalties kept Sports in the game. Especially with a penalty try and another well rounded try from Matt Phillips, showed that no matter the weather all players are enjoying the new found freedom of player under the watchful eye of coach Gareth Ivory.

Dai Harris ensures communication kept players on their toes and Rhys Manford rallied the forwards to command the breakdown. Half time came far too quick.

John Thomas led the halftime talks and everyone agreed more of the same.

Not to be out done Tongwynlais kept up the pressure from their star centre and made sure Sports had to work as hard in defence as they are in attack. Both sides made substitutions and effected play, but the game carried on much the same, both sides making mistakes, but also showing why all games are tough in this league.

That said more onslaughts from man of match Harry Moyle backed up by the remaining 14 players ensured pressure was repaid tenfold and Sports continued to score. Gaining the bonus point they so deserved.

A disjoined game and far too much whistle blowing ended with Sports running out winners 29-22, contrary to reports which showed a different score. Sports currently in second place travel to Ferndale this weekend, so all support is welcome.

In this, the clubs 50th year, things are looking up on and off the field. But again the coach was heard saying this is testament to all the players’ hard work and headaches in selection.
