THE indoor season got off to a winning start last Saturday, when the Rectory Road Mixed team gained a substantial victory. The ever popular Llantwit Major provided the opposition on this occasion and, though the visitors gave a very good account of themselves, as ever, “local knowledge” prevailed and the Penarth team were victorious on all four rinks.

Pick of the bunch was the quartet led by last-minute replacement skip, “super-sub”, Bob Hill, who, with the assistance of Jayne Edwards, “Bowen The Books”, and Neil Gaskell, ran out winners by 14 shots. There were also winning performances by Bob Lewis, Peggy Fitzgerald and Betty Jones. Penarth entertain their good friends from Cowbridge BC in the first of the Men’s’ Wednesday evening matches on October 22.

Reports have it that John Whitfield was somewhat taken aback by the account of the recent Torquay Trip in last week’s “Times”. A resigned looking John, giving a passable impression of Rene Artois of “Allo, Allo” fame, remarked, “Today, you are looking at a very un’appy man”.

Watch your back, Mr Chandler.
