THE return leg of the semi finals of the Welsh Cup for Clubs took place at the Kymin, Penarth, hosted by the Penarth Petanque Club, on Sunday, November 2. The Penarth PC, having lost the first leg 1-4 to the Wheatsheaf PC the previous week, were in fighting mood on their home piste.
In the first two rounds of triples, Penarth were winning 13-3 and 13-12 clawing back to within one game of the favourites from Llanhennock, Gwent. In the final rounds of doubles Penarth was on a winning streak, with two more wins to take the lead at 5-4.
Although the Penarth team played well and fought back, they were denied victory by one of the strongest pairs in the game from the Wheatsheaf PC, who won convincingly scoring 13-4 to draw with Penarth PC with an overall score of 5-5.
The Wheatsheaf team, with the highest point difference were the victors of the day. They will play Monkstone PC, both of them Cardiff clubs, in the finals of the Welsh Clubs champions who will represent Wales in the Petanque Euro Cup in 2015.
Penarth PC will play for third/ fourth place against Wenvoe PC later this month. The Penarth team were: Jean-Yves Robic (captain), Brian and Jenny Spooner, Rob and Valerié Falconer, Andrew and Tim Howard, Scot Murray and Will Thomas.
