PENARTH Bowling Club rounded off their series of pre-Christmas matches with two emphatic victories over the past week.

On Saturday, December 6, the opposition was provided by Firbank, a very sporting combination from Newport, but the home team proved too strong on this occasion and Penarth were victorious on all four rinks.

The winning skips were Reg Jones, Dave Clements, Nick Thomas and Bob Lewis.

Bob, ably backed by Brian Knight, Mike England and Haydn Trow, put in the afternoon’s top performance with a 19 shot win.

However, Reg, not to be outdone and with the aid of Ron Birkby, Alan Stockham and Russell Daniel provided the Rectory Road team with their second “Eight” of the week.

Alan was last reported as saying he was applying for a commemorative badge to mark this achievement, but remember Alan (and this might come as a nasty shock!) Valerie Singeleton is not on “Blue Peter” these days.

On Wednesday the visitors were the ever popular Cowbridge team, and once again Penarth proved utterly invincible, with the benchmark set by Dave Clements, who, judging from his shy demeanor had appeared to come without his portable 10 kilowatt Amplifier on this occasion.

There were also good wins for Dave Dalby and Clive Fry and, such was Penarth’s dominance, Bob Lewis is still wondering how his rink had the task of washing up after a 12 shot victory.

Matches commence again in January, in the meantime, warmest seasonal greetings to all members.
