TWO golfers from the Vale were awarded at the Presentation Evening at Cottrell Park Golf and Country Club. Club secretary Jenny McGlyne welcomed the guests to the evening. The trophies were presented by the captain Edward Yhap and Ladies’ captain Jan Cosby.

During the evening the captains gave reports on the performances of their respective sections over the last year, including how the teams had performed.

The Cottrell Cup won by Graham Clark and Tyler Trophy won by Celine Chew are played for each year to celebrate the opening of Cottrell Park Golf Club.

The Ladies’ Club Champion, 14 year old Eleanor Lewis, gave a very eloquent speech, thanking the club, the professional and her family for all the support she had been given since joining Cottrell Park at six years old.

The captain’s charity for the year was Hafal. A cheque for £4,580 was presented to Jamaid Iqbal, area manager for Hafal, a further amount will be added later following a raffle for a handmade quilt by the ladies section.

Gareth Bennett, professional golfer at Cottrell Park was thanked for his sterling effort following a sponsored golf day, completing 108 holes walking approximately 35 miles and raising £637.50p for Hafal.

Barclays Bank also made a £1,000 contribution.

The club secretary thanked the competition secretaries for their work throughout the year and Meirion Chesney for managing the trophies so efficiently.

Two other trophies completed the evening, Player of the Year; for contribution to the juniors and the team was awarded to Eleanor Lewis, and The Bill Bryce Trophy; for commitment, support and leadership over the year went to Erin Allison.

The evening concluded with congratulations to all the winners, followed by refreshments.
