South Wales Senior League Division 1

Sully Sports 4 - Tonyrefail 0

The gales and rain of recent days eased hours before the kick off of this league game, with the pitch being well grassed but soft.

Even for Swanbridge the wind strength was only breezy.

Sully Sports were looking to put their recent nightmare at Cornelly behind them and play the type of football they are known for at this standard.

Sports played against the wind first half and made plenty of early chances.

Tonyrefail were on the back foot with a series of corners that saw Sports take the lead with a solid headed goal from six yards from Chris Rees deservedly.

Young keeper Sol Borde once again filled in for the unavailable regular Kieron Sharrat and the keeper was well protected by an improved display from his defenders.

The midfield were providing lots of possession and Dan Lawlor and Alex Long were giving the visitors a torrid time and they combined well to increase the Sports lead when Lawlor centred for Alex Long to hook the ball past the diving keeper.

Within minutes Lawlor again found Alex Long who picked his spot to fire past the keeper for the third just before half time.

The second half saw more of the wide runs of Taylor Harding stretching the Ton defence. Time and again he was in the thick of things as he volleyed past the post.

Wes Lamb was overlapping well and getting some great crosses in.

The visitors were now getting into the game a little as Sully rang the changes, but with Storer, Hopkins and Brown solid they did not pose a threat.

Back from injuries Hanlon and Hemmens went up front with Hywel Arkontopoulos making his first team debut at the back.

Sports scored their fourth when Gareth Hemmens shot was saved but he followed on playing a deft one-two to score.

This Saturday Sports return to Cornelly in the league cup, which Sully are the holders, and face a difficult game after losing in the league, leaving at noon sharp.

The Pumas entertain the Sully Vale of Division 1 side at the Sports centre in the league cup.
