DINAS Ladies managed to switch their match venue thanks to the Hafod pitch being playable.

Following on from a comfortable win at Merthyr on their impressive 3G pitch the New Year certainly has started with a bang.

The Villagers' line up was very attack minded, playing a 3-4-3 formation.

The team has worked hard on playing football the correct way this season but for this match the ladies set about playing percentage football.

Taking time to settle into the new formation Dinas fell a goal behind early on. But they never panicked and went about the game in a determined mood. Goals from Ellen Phillips (2), Laura Lewis (1) and Rachel Beare (2) gave the Vale team a comfortable and deserved lead of 5-1 at the break.

The back three of Vicky Ellison, Leane Pattemore and Emma Thompson coped very well, showing that they could deal with the high ball over the top and the through balls with ease.

The midfield four of White, Beddoe, Saunders and Howells were asked to press and squeeze as a unit allowing the Valley team little time on the ball and play a direct style when in possession.

The front three of Phillips, Lewis and Beare would give most teams a hard time.

The link up play was key as they reacted to the triggers and any other day the score would have been in double figures.

Jodi Bowles had the thankless task of picking up the gloves with the late withdrawal of Harold through illness but as usual Jodi gives 100 per cent and for the last 20 minutes put in great shift when replaced by Saunders in goals.

Danielle Speight and Booth showed how important it is to have subs as they came on and both put in a solid shift.

Dinas Ladies won 6-3 against Hafod Ladies.

Well done ladies with very little football being played lately it was nice to see the Red and Blacks winning again.
