PENARTH Bowling Club’s successful indoor season continued over the last two weeks with a win over the Murch Bowling Club and an enjoyable “in house” fixture on Wednesday last.

Penarth entertained a somewhat weakened Murch side on March 4, with several familiar faces absent from the opposition ranks.

In the event, the home-side proved too strong for the visitors and Penarth ran out comfortable winners. The top rink was skipped by Dave Dalby, who, well supported by Nick Thomas, Phil Davies and “Bowen The Books” chalked up a 27 shot win.

There were also big wins for Clive Fry and Bob Lewis and victory for Dave Clements, who faced strong opposition from the fourth Murch rink made up of guests from Rectory Road, led by the formidable Bob Hill.

On Wednesday, March 11, a blank date was filled by an internal match made up of two four-rink triples teams from the Penarth Club.

This produced a monumental struggle between two well matched sides with only a nine shot overall margin separating the two at the close.

There were three winning rinks for the “Impossibles” albeit by narrow margins. The best performance coming from Dave Dalby yet again, with good support from the Clive Williams and Dave Clements trios.

However the star performance of the night came from the Bob Lewis three, where Bob, with the aid of Phil Davies and John Bowen recorded a thumping win against Haydn Trow, to condemn Haydn’s rink to the washing-up duties and the dreaded accolade of the Marigold Trophy. Perhaps a little more practice is needed Haydn.
