ON A glorious April Easter Sunday a Spartans select X1 started off their season with a 26 run win against a Ton select X1.

Winning the toss Spartans skipper D Morgan elected to gamble and bat on a damp wicket and large outfield which had plenty of grass stopping the ball from gaining momentum towards the boundary, but in the end it would prove to be the right decision.

Sunny, playing his first game for the club, opened the innings with Morgan and he hit a swashbuckling 43 (including 2 sixes) before being well caught with the opening partnership having reached 70.

Another newbie, Chai, also played some excellent strokes before being stumped for a quickfire 24 with the score now on 130 for 2 after 32 overs.

The rest of the batsmen found it difficult to score against a well drilled ton attack whilst opener Morgan continued to push the ones and twos and at the end of the innings remained unbeaten on 44 as the Spartans reached, in normal circumstances, a modest 169, but in reality with the slow outfield and track it was a very decent score.

In reply the opposition had even more difficulty pushing the score along with both Shoaib and Chai restricting the score to 29 from the first 10 overs.

The tight bowling continued with another newbie Haaris (2 for 18) and Dipesh (2 for 10 ) restricting Ton to 60 for 4 from 20 overs.

Dishant ( 2 for 6) and Sathish ( 2 for 16) finished off what the other bowlers had started and this, coupled with a superb catch by Hitesh, and run out by Fareed at the end of the 38 over the away side were all out for 146.

Sully Cricket Club 169 for 9

D. Morgan 44 not out

Ton 143 all out
