ONE of the oldest bowling clubs in the Vale is celebrating its centenary this month.

Members are pleased their club has survived for so long while sad that many clubs in Cardiff and the surrounding areas are having to close due to factors such as shortage of numbers and/or funding.

Penarth Belle Vue Bowling Club is marking its 100 year history with a series of events and an invitation to anyone interested to try out the game for themselves on April 18.

David Purser, chairman at Penarth Belle Vue Bowling Club, is especially proud his club has managed to reach this special milestone.

He says: "We have a number of special events and matches organised during the coming season, which starts Saturday, April 18, to help celebrate this achievement.

"We are a relatively small but friendly club, situated in the lovely surroundings of Belle Vue Park, near St Augustine's Church, towards Penarth Head.

"We welcome players of all ages and abilities, including those wishing to try the game for the first time.

"We have Welsh Bowling Association qualified coaches available, in club, to help, if required.

"We also welcome any ladies who may be interested in bowls - we already have a few lady members and are keen to re-establish a ladies section and team within the club."

If anyone is interested in taking up this sport with the club then if you would like further information please e-mail:
