Dinas Powys Wolves U-12s FC 4

Sully Reds 3

IT was Groundhog Day all over again for Dinas Powys Wolves in going two down in the opening 10 minutes with two very well taken goals that put the home side on the back foot.

Dinas never panic though as they know there is plenty of goals and chances in this team.

Dinas woke up on the 12th minute mark as Bayley Harewood was unlucky not to pull one back with a well timed glancing header before Cole Saunders then fired two warning shots across the goal. The home side were now settling and the through balls were starting to find their front men.

Saunders then pulled one back beating the offside trap and slotting past the oncoming ‘keeper. His second was a classy finish drawing the ‘keeper off his line and firing in with the outside of his boot.

The game was going end to end as the middle of the park resembled a battlefield with little football being played. Jake frost, Tylor Williams, Robson Mallum, Connor O'Brien, Jake Lewis and Zac Fifield all marshalled the back line in turn putting their tackles and heads in where it hurts.

At the break with the score line 2-2 the game was very tense but Dinas weren't settling for a draw. Joe Doughty and Hareward pushed the midfield on with Pereira, Quest and Booker wide and high. Callum Hewitson’s movement was superb dropping in the pocket and creating space for Saunders to run into time and time again.

With 15 minutes gone in the second half the home side were awarded a free kick 30 yards out. Most under 12's would just toss it in the box but when you have a lad who can work a ball like no other for his age it’s deadly. Step up Kyle Booker who unleashed a free kick that no ‘keeper would have saved as it arrowed straight into the top corner.

The villagers would not sit back though and went looking for a fourth, but lost the ball in the middle and a nice neat ball through allowed the Sully striker to outpace the Dinas defence to bring the game level again.

Dylan Morris then having little to do in the second although having to be alert throughout pulled off a fine double save and Mossey and Frost were fastest to react to clear the danger.

This only fired the boys in red and black into action Doughty, Hewitson, Quest and Booker set Saunders free a few times but some fine saves denied the on form striker from putting the game to bed. As Wolves piled on the pressure it was a shot from Booker that cannoned off his man marker and deflected into the visitors net to give all three points to the villagers.

The rear guard in the second half needs a special mention as Williams, Moss, Mallum, O'Brien, Lewis, Fifield and Frost were great tracking runners and stopping shots.

Another brilliant performance from the Wolves players showing it’s not over until the fat lady sings.

Man of the match for showing the right way to handle himself on the pitch was Kyle Booker.
